Ultrasonic Firearm Cleaning

Why Our Firearm Cleaning Machines Are Great

  • More thorough cleaning- cleans down to one-micron cleanliness level
  • Shorter cleaning times- 3-5 minutes for most firearms
  • Less handling- allows the user to perform other functions while cleaning is in process
  • Lubrication tank design uses ultrasonic energy allowing complete coverage in every crack and crevasse
  • Cleaning detergent is specifically chosen for firearm cleaning and includes a rust prohibitor
  • Lubrication is specially formulated for firearm cleaning with water displacement and low-temperature properties

Preparing Your Ultrasonic Gun Cleaning Systems

1. Fill Tank With Cleaning Solution: Fill the tank up to the recommended working level with a mixture of 10% Brulin 815GD and 90% high quality water (Shake Brulin 815GD well before using). Also fill the lubricant pan with Valrust 1609 and set aside for later use. Please read the Safety Data Sheet before mixing any chemicals

2. Preheat: Preheat the cleaning tank to 140 Degrees Fahrenheit (60 Degrees Celsius).

3. De-Gas: With the  ultrasonic tank full, run the system for 5 minutes to degas. Review section “Operating the equipment” 3.4.8 about degassing before ultrasonically cleaning.

4. Firearm Preparation: Remove all ammunition from the firearm and inspect the chamber is empty.

5. Disassemble and Submerge: Disassemble the firearm. Typical disassembly is a “field strip”. Remove any wooden grips. Place the disassembled firearm in the mesh basket. Submerge basket into the tank. (Caution: Detergent in the tank is hot, wear appropriate gloves for protection.)

Safety First!

While the cleaning and lubricating process is generally safe, we recommend use of eye protection and rubber gloves. Consult with applicable Safety Data Sheets for additional safety, health and environment information.

Caution: Assure firearm is unloaded prior to starting the cleaning process.

Ultrasonic Cleaning Guide

1. Power Intensity – This knob controls the power output of the generator. Fully counter-clockwise represents 0%, while fully clockwise represents 100%. It is recommended to start at 50% power for most firearm cleaning jobs. If cleaning soft metals or materials, such as brass musical instruments, a lower power intensity may be recommended.

2. Sweep Rate – As the exact resonant frequency required for optimal cleaning cannot be known, the generator rapidly sweeps across a range of frequencies to ensure the frequency is obtained. This knob controls the sweep rate of the generator. The ideal sweet rate depends on the cleaning job, but 300 Hz, or fully counter-clockwise, is typically recommended as a starting point.

3. Ultrasonically clean for approximately 3-5 minutes.

4. Remove the firearm and rinse with water for approximately 30 seconds to flush residual cleaning solution.

5. Dry the firearm with the Ultra-Powerparts dryer delivering high pressure heated air.

Ultrasonically Lubricate the Firearm

1. The lubricating solution not only oils the parts, but provides a water-displacing function.
Caution: Be sure to use a lubricating oil that has rust preventative, water displacing, high flash point and low temperature application properties.

2. Once dry, place the firearm in the lubricant pan with the Valrust 1609 and place the pan so that the bottom of the lube pan is partially submerged in the detergent.

3. Ultrasonically lubricate the firearm for approximately 3 minutes.

4. Drain excess lubricant off the firearm, blow gentle air on firearm to evenly displace lubricant, and/or wipe off any excess lubricant with a lint-free cloth. Send a cleaning rod through the barrel to evenly displace the lubricant.

you are ready to reassemble the firearm!

Finally: If you are not expecting to clean more firearms the same day, it’s a good idea to drain the cleaning solution from the tank and save the solution, less the firearm debris/contaminants, in a separate container for later cleaning sessions.
